MOLLUSCS
The phylum Mollusca is largely marine but also includes many freshwater and terrestrial forms. This is a very diverse group, with some members having complex and evolutionarily advanced structures. Characteristics of most members include a hard calcareous (calcium) external shell that surrounds a soft unsegmented body. Usually a large muscular foot is also present. Classes include Gastropods (snails and slugs) Bivalves (clams) and Cephalopods (octopuses and squids).
